modifying lineage remaster client
by Wanted in
Lineage Remaster

For the past few months, I have been working on the Lineage Remaster private server. I wanted to make sure I have a good client/server files to get started with and now with those two items in place, I can begin working on modifying the lineage client.

The last stable client/server we had as a private server was 3.63c which I have already, but since the Lineage got an overhaul of graphics I wanted to work on the Remaster version of the game. I am really happy NCSoft decided to update their best MMORPG game to a modern version.

Since I do not have the client translated, I do not know which version of the client I am working on. I will update as I progress through updating the client/server hopefully making a fully functional English version of Lineage Remaster.

Pak extractor

In order to extract data from the client, we need something called Pak Extractor. Lucky for us, there are other coders out there who has already made on for us to use. Most of the text located in the game client can be modified by extracting the files and editing them with a simply notepad.

For this example, we are going to be working with the ActionDesc-k.tbl files. ActionDesc is the social action section of the lineage client. As you can see the text is written in korean language, and thus makes it harder for us “English” players to understand what they mean. We can open this file with notepad or notepadd++ (recommend) and start translating the text.

Update Client

With the Korean translation complete for the ActionDesc-k.tbl file, now we need to update the client with the changes. You will need a patcher to insert this file into the client itself. There are two ways to update the client. Either with a Pak Extractor or with patching the client. Since I am not a coder, I do not know how to make a patcher, thus I am relying on the Pak Extractor to do the update.

Update the client

  • Pak Extractor
  • Patching the Client

You will need to do you homework and find out how to get hold of the extractor or patcher. However, I can recommend you visit Chinese websites that have dedicated community regarding the private lineage servers. I am a member of Lineage45 website where I get all of my files. This is the only active one that is still up and running, and you don’t need special account or anything.

This file we just edited is part of the Action settings in the client.

As you can see now that we hover over the icons the text is completely in English. So much better in English right? But we still got some more text on this panel that still reads korean right? Well, those text are located in another file called “ActionExDesc-k.tbl” in the client, and that file looks like this.

ActionExDesc-k

This can be a nightmare to edit, but you need to simplify it and just focus on one line at a time. I have already translated this text file as well and below is what the game looks like when the whole panel is translated in english.

Have been playing MMORPG since I was 18 years old. Back then, I had all the time in the world, today being much older with family and kids, my hardcore time has disappeared tremendously. However, when I get that few minutes of free time, you can bet I am playing. This addiction all began with Lineage The Bloodpledge.... a game dear to my heart.

Heyo, I shot you an email this morning and wanted to reach out on here as well. I saw your repo on github and was wondering if you would like assistance in translation work (some of the things you had marked as to-do). If you are interested in help, please feel free to shoot me an email!
